Mosquito Coast = Poisonwood Bible?

After watching the movie, I was really surprised how much it resembled the Poisonwood Bible. For example, Allie (the dad in MC) had the same characteristics of Nathan Price. He had the same headstrong, stubborn, arrogant personality. And in the end, his own family didn't even trust him. In MC, Allie is against the Christians, thinking that its was all rubbish. His family left the United States thinking that technology would destroy the country and leave it in chaos. Nathan's family came to the Congo to save because Nathan felt it was his duty to save the Congolese people from darkness. Another similarity is Leah and the eldest son in MC. They both at first adorded their fathers and looked up to them as role models. But in the end, they start doubting them and rebeling. The eldest son in MC tried to escape with his mom and siblings because he felt his dad was becoming monster-like. And Leah began to rebel against her father's wishes like participating in the hunt. He also says that she for the first time hated him. Also, in both case, the wives want to leave for the sake of the children and the father is adamantly agaisnt it. Both Nathan and Allie feel superior to the family and feels that since they are the ruler of they family and the food suplier, the family should abide to their wishes. In one part of the movie, Allie says to his wife that he is the ruler of the family and without his they would die. And in the book, Nathan asks Leah who the head of the family was. I think in both cases, in the begining both dads were somewhat sane, but in the end, they turned into monsters.

Also, in both cases, there is one person who wants to save them. For example in the PWB, Brother Fowles and his wife warn the Price family that they should leave. In the movie, it was the Black guy(I cannot remember his name) who tried to bring his family back into civilization.

Also, in both cases, the fathers are wrong in some sense. For example in the movie when the family was living on the beach, the Black guy who tries to save them tells Allie that when there is hightide, they will all get flooded, and Allie is skeptical and does not belive him. It turned out true after all, which made me really doubt in the credibility of Allie's words. In the PBW, Nathan tries to grow his garden the way he did in America, but Mama Tataba warns his to make it in mounds. She was right after all.
